This vacation rental is located in the West of
Berlin in a quiet and friendly area but is also close to top attractions.
The famous shopping street of Kurfürstendamm (also called
KuDamm) is just 10 minutes away. Here you will find a vast
array of shops that will keep shopaholics occupied for hours.
A visit to the Europa Center which houses the unusual Clock
of Flowing Time and the beautiful Lotus Fountain is worthwhile
and you cant miss the world famous department store KaDeWe,
the second largest department store in Europe after Harrods.
Also along Kurfürstendamm on the Breitscheidplatz
you will find the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächniskirche (Memorial
Church). Between the new buildings of the church and the separate
belfry, you can see the spire of the old church which was damaged
during a bombing raid in 1943. The ground floor of this old building
has been converted into a memorial hall.
Animal lovers will enjoy a trip to the Berlin
Zoologischer Garten which is just round the corner from Breitscheidplatz.
This is where the adorable polar bear cub, Knut was born and lived
out his life attracting millions of visitors from all over the
world. Today there are over 1,500 species of animals who are housed
in enclosures that represent their natural habitats. There is
a large aquarium, a nocturnal animal house and walk in aviaries
as well as the outside enclosures.
The Tiergarten which is found just behind the
zoo is Berlins largest inner city parkland and provides
hours of entertainment for those who love walking or relaxing
in natural settings. There is also an open air museum of gas lanterns,
a lake with rowing boats to hire and various cafés and
restaurants located within the Tiergarten itself.
Using the well-structured public transport system
of Berlin you can also reach other exciting tourist attractions
and museums. There is such a large choice of things to see and
do in Berlin that you will wish you could extend your stay. If
history is your thing then you must see the Berlin Wall memorial,
Checkpoint Charlie and the various historical museums. If you
are interested in unusual architecture then the Reichstag building
with its dome designed by British architect Norman Foster is not
to be missed along with the Sony Centre, Berlin Hauptbahnhof and
the Berlin Philharmonic Hall.
